The Oscars ended with one of the most shocking moments in its 89 year run.

“Moonlight” received the honor of Best Picture on Sunday, Feb. 26 after mistakenly announcing that “La La Land” won.

Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were given the wrong envelope and escaped backstage before the embarrassment ensued on stage.

“It was absolutely one of the hardest things to watch. But the producer of ‘La La Land’ dealt with the mix up graciously, and tried so hard to give the moment back to the cast and crew of ‘Moonlight’,” Peter Bakerson said, a first year Fullerton College student. “Mistakes happen. It’s hard to point fingers, but whoever’s mistake that was, I feel for them.”

After last years trending hashtag about the Oscars, #OscarsSoWhite, it was incredible to see the diversity change this year.

After having no diversity during last year’s Academy Awards, which resulted in the trending of the hashtag “OscarsSoWhite,” this year the all African-American cast of “Moonlight” took home Best Picture in an incredible turn of events.

“Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins took to the stage in utter shock.

“Very clearly, even in my dreams this could not be true,” Jenkins said. “But to hell with dreams. I’m done with it because this is true. Oh my goodness.”

Jimmy Kimmel hosted Oscar’s night and it was full of all his antics – dropping candy from the ceilings, bringing in a Los Angeles City tour group to meet their favorite actors and to the always-entertaining “Read Mean Tweets” segment.

“I never watch Jimmy Kimmel on a regular, mostly because I didn’t realize how funny he is,” Roger Ameda stated. “A lot of the time during award seasons, people want the hosts to mess up, but once Kimmel brought in Donald Trump on twitter he had me hooked!”

By no surprise, Emma Stone took home Best Actress for her performance in “La La Land”, and Viola Davis won Best Supporting Actress for her work in “Fences”.

Both thanked the academy, but Davis’ speech was a winner all on its own.

Her speech was beautiful and left the audience in awe.”I became an artist, and thank god I did because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life,” Davis said.

“I mean she had the entire audience in tears, and not just in the Dolby Theater, but I was home crying! She is so inspiring. I’m just so happy she took home her first Oscar last night!” Brianna Van Tassel said, a child development transfer student at Fullerton College.

Best Actor in a Leading Role went to Casey Affleck for his performance in “Manchester by the Sea” and gave a brief speech to express his gratitude to Denzel Washington for giving him the fire to start acting.

In the supporting role, Best Actor was awarded to Mahershala Ali in his amazing commitment to his character in “Moonlight”.

With so many memorable moments this Oscars surely was unforgettable.
