Volunteers will be collecting canned and dry food donations for the Chris Lamm & Toni DuBois-Walker Memorial Food Bank during Love Fullerton’s citywide service day this Saturday, April 29.
Volunteers will be stationed at two local Fullerton grocery stores to hand a shopping list of potential food items for donation to incoming shoppers. Love Fullerton is also calling for volunteers to transport the food donations to campus, and more to receive the donations and bring them to the food bank.
Many spots are still open for many of the Love Fullerton projects.
This year’s citywide service day will start off with an opening rally, check-in and free breakfast and coffee for all volunteers hosted at the Downtown Fullerton Plaza at 8 a.m. All participants will be given a brief orientation before going to their sites.
After volunteers have completed their community service projects, there will be an after-party celebration and free lunch held on the Fullerton College Quad at 12:30 p.m.
Volunteers are advised to bring water, snacks and sunscreen along with a signed liability form.
Last year, Love Fullerton volunteers were able to collect about 2,000 cans of food for the FC food bank.
The Chris Lamm and Toni Dubois-Walker Memorial Food Bank was started at Fullerton College in 2012 as a means to provide nutritious food to students in need and their families.
Any student enrolled in at least three units that provides a current class schedule, and a student or state-issued photo identification card is eligible to receive assistance.
The food bank is located in room 1955 and is open to students on Tuesdays from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
