National iPod Day

Apple Inc. is known for launching aesthetically pleasing products that are universal and easy to use. On Oct. 23, 2001, Apple introduced it’s first portable electronic music device, the iPod.

“With the iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music player that lets you put your entire music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go,” said Steve Jobs when he introduced the first iPod in 2001.

In 2004, the iPod became a successful product and Apple decided to step up their game with different models, shapes, and generations.

With technology growing quickly, Apple introduced other features for the iPod. Not only could music be stored, but users were able to store pictures, download applications, play games, and more.

Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, which was very similar to an iPod touch, but users were also able to text message and make phone calls.

iPod sales decreased drastically over recent years due to mass production of smartphones and Apple announced this year that they will discontinue the iPod Shuffle and Nano.

Fullerton College students weigh in on whether they’ve owned an iPod and if they still use it today.
