The Fullerton women’s soccer came out strong at home against Ventura College cruising to 3-0 win and their first post-season victory since 2004.
Freshman forward Brianna Remedios was responsible for all three goals for the Hornets, which gave the player her first hattrick of the season.
“We worked with Bree at going directly at goal and today she did just that to the defense where she was able to come up with three goals,” said head-coach Pam Lewin.
Coming off a home lose against district rival Cypress College, the Hornets were the brink to not qualify for the playoffs, but were giving a play in game at home.
The first half of the game the Hornets came out fast. Fullerton’s first goal came less than minute into the game when freshman defender Alyssa Madrigal found Remedios in open space. Remedios then found the back of the net giving the Fullerton and early 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Fullerton created another opportunity at goal off a pass from sophomore defender Brooker Morris. The pass fell right at Remedios’ feet where she blasted shot past Pirates goalkeeper Maya Escobar.
The goal gave Fullerton a 2-0 lead going into the second half and Remedios’ second goal of the game.
“We decide our best way to start was 4-3-3 that what we focused on practicing,” said Lewin. “We worked little bit more with the wingers and putting the ball at specific space behind the defense which I felt help give us an early lead.”
Starting the second half, Remedios scored her third goal after taking the ball down the field and chipping the ball over the goalkeeper. Securing the home win for the Hornets.
“I think our coaches really motivated us. They prepared us well during the weeks in practice and we came out with a game plan,” said Remedios. “The team did great in finding me in space and we just played a great game overall.”
Up next for Fullerton is the first round of SoCal Regionals at Rio Hondo College this Saturday, November 18th at 7:00pm.
