The Fullerton Hornets fell behind early against Chaffey in their match up of the season, but came back to tie 1-1 at home Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The Hornets looked to gain momentum after blanking Glendale 3-0 at home last Friday. Both Fullerton and Chaffey entered game play on Wednesday with identical records hoping to walk away with a win.

The Panthers drew first blood, as Ivan Diaz weaved his way through Hornet defenders to score an unassisted goal 22 minutes into the game, leaving Fullerton down 1-0.

Fullerton responded 65 minutes into the game after a penalty from freshman midfielder Ryan Meinardus resulted in a game tying goal, with the score tied at 1-1.

A penalty kick would be all for the Hornets, as they finished this one with seven shots on goal scoring just one. The Hornets will have to get the offense going if they look to repeat as OEC Champions.

The Hornets find themselves with a record of 1-1-1, not a hot start when compared with 2018’s start of 3-0. The offense is the biggest difference between the two seasons.

Fullerton started 2018 outscoring opponents 11-1 in the first three games, compared to 2019 where they have scored five goals and allowed four almost breaking even.

If Fullerton has any hopes of repeating as conference champions they will have to get the offense going with urgency.

The Hornets will travel to Mt. SAC to take on College of the Desert at 5 p.m., as part of the Mt. SAC Invitational.
