Freshman Manny Tovar’s early score earned the Hornets a rebound win from last Saturday’s game on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Hornets came out the gate fast as they maintained possession of the ball for most of the first half.
Cuyamaca’s tight and shield like defense denied Fullerton access to the goalkeepers area with many consecutive headers pushing the ball back to Fullerton’s territory.
The Hornets first attempt to score was attempted by freshman Derek Von Puschendorf, but a missed attempt left the score even at 0-0.
Tovar scored the only goal for the Hornets, in the middle of the first half. Cuyamaca’s goalkeeper came forward leaving the net open for Tovar and giving the Hornets a 1-0.
“I think we as a team can communicate more and we held the ball too much,” said Tovar.
The game grew more desperate and chaotic with lots of grappling and close quarter combat for the ball with fouls being called inconsistently.
The game ended on a late goal attempt by Cuyamaca but an offside call killed any momentum leaving the final score of 1-0.
