Quarantine has affected every aspect of human life with schools, parks and museums having to close their doors in order to protect their staff as well as their patrons. Without a timeline on when these places might open, there are still ways to visit certain places like Museums.
Google Arts and Culture is a website/app that allows you to visit museums from all around the world. It includes museums from over 80 countries and lets you take a tour as if you were there yourself. It’s an interactive site that allows you to walk the halls of Versailles, climb the mountain of Machu Picchu, or download an activity book and color in your own version of the Zittende Kat and other works of art. You can watch the full performance of “Nora” from the English National Ballet for free at home.
If you want to see an art collection that you would not normally get to see because it’s in another country, then take a dive into the detail of an impressionist painting or the beads on a bodice. Some of the museums on offer include the FIDM Museum and Gallery which features a large collection of art from the students at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. The Metropolitan is also included as one of the tours and features its vast archives online. You can also have a history lesson on famous artists or even look at the studios where some of the most famous pieces of art were created all without having to leave your home.
