The Hornets beat the El Camino Warriors 33-7 at Nathan Shappell Memorial Stadium in their last home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Hornets had an even 4-4 record coming into Saturdays contest and appeared to be out of the running for a conference title.

The Hornets needed a win to stay in contention for the conference title and what better way to get a win than potentially their last game at Yorba Linda High School.

The previous game against San Diego Mesa saw several school records broken in a big statement win.

This contest was looking to be a defensive battle in the first quarter with both teams shutting down the run and the pass. The first quarter ended scoreless.

However, El Camino may have used too much energy before the game started as the second quarter they appeared to tire out.

A quick three-and-out forced the Hornets to punt. Hornets punter Alec Fonseca pinned the Warriors to their own 5-yard line.

Fullerton gambled by bringing heavy pressure, but it paid off. The Hornets pressure got to El Camino’s Quarterback Jermane Gotay, as he fumbled in the end zone and it was recovered by Hornets freshman Braylon Willis for the touchdown. After the extra-point kick the Hornets were up 7-0.

Fullerton appeared to take control of the game and with 6:16 on the clock Hornets QB Quinn Commans, drove the Hornets down field. The drive concluded with Commans connecting with wide receiver Kailan Noseff for an 18-yard reception. Fullerton attempted the 2-pt conversion but failed giving the Hornets a 13-0 advantage.

As the first half came to a close, El Camino pieced together a strong drive as Gotay lead the Warriors downfield for a touchdown cutting the Hornet lead 13-7.

The first half ended with both teams failing to achieve 100 yards of total offense. The game was still close as Fullerton had a slim 6-point lead.

The second half was all Hornets. The Warriors could not find an answer for the Hornets defense as they were shut out scoring no points.

Fullerton was able to put up an additional 20 points in the second half.

The game ended with a Fullerton win 33-7 and in control of their own fate as they played their last home game of the season.

Quinn Commons passed for an impressive 304 yards and 4 touchdowns and no interceptions in one of his best performances of the season.

Fullerton will play Mt. SAC for the Conference title this Saturday. The Hornets are in control of their own fate as Mt. SAC was just beaten by San Diego Mesa 30-33 in overtime.

For reference, Fullerton beat San Diego Mesa by 57-points. The favor appears to be in Fullerton, but anything can happen in football.

The Hornets will head to Mt. SAC to play the Mounties in the conference Championship game on Saturday Nov. 16. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
