In weeks prior the Fullerton Farmers Market was located at Independence Park but has since moved a mile away to the Fullerton Public Library parking lot at 353 W. Commonwealth Ave.
The Fullerton Farmer’s Market has been around for many years and is believed to be one of the oldest farmers markets around, according to the City of Fullerton‘s website. They were located at a few Fullerton locations many years ago until business started to expand and they finally moved to Independence Park in 2007, so the vendors have built a solid customer base.
“We have regular, loyal customers that we have built relationships with over the years and they have called or text us to see where we’ve moved to,” said Jimmy Moreno, Interim Manager. Moreno has no doubt the market will continue to see no decline in business during these times of the stay-at-home order.
According to Cory Toma, a vendor at the kettle corn stand, many of his customers have also reached out by phone and email as well when they noticed they were no longer at Independence Park in the past month.
The new temporary location is open every Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., “rain or shine!” said Moreno. They offer a variety of fresh produce, nuts, eggs, as well as some kettle corn and empanadas.
They have a variety of vendors but enough where you won’t see double of the same product, so business is spread well amongst them.
According to Daniel Chavez, a Fullerton resident, he likes that the Farmer’s market moved closer to him because he was worried about the homeless issue at Independence Park. He felt if the market had stayed there during this time, he may have gone with caution worried about social distancing or may have just stopped going altogether if it seemed unsafe.
According to Moreno, many customers like how accessible the farmer’s market is at the new location because it is in the middle of a neighborhood with many houses. Many neighbors can just walk to the farmer’s market while continuing to keep a social distance.
“Customers in Orange County have been very good at wearing masks and keeping a distance whereas other Farmer’s Markets in Los Angeles. For example, some have too many customers that they had to close because of the number of customers there was no room to keep a social distance or some have switched to drive-ups in cars, but those long lines of cars can take hours, so we do very well here,” said Moreno.
