Lancers dominate Indians in league opener

The Fullerton Indians were first to score on a jump shot by Eddie Biar, but that would be the only lead the team would have for the rest of the night, as the Sunny Hills Lancers cruised past Fullerton 72-59 in both teams league opener Tuesday night.

Fullerton (4-10, 0-1) fell behind early as Sunny Hills (12-7,1-0) went on a 13-0 run after Biar scored the Indians’ opening basket. 6-foot-7 senior forward Luke Ross, who totaled 13 points for the night, ignited the run for the Lancers.

The Indians were able to cut their deficit to within five points midway through the second quarter and found themselves down 32-25 at halftime, but inconsistent shooting could not help them close the gap.

Guards John Paek and Ryan Shaw knocked down key 3-pointers for Sunny Hills in the third quarter to put Fullerton away.

Stone Sinek, who led Fullerton in scoring with 24 points, tried to shoot Fullerton back into the game, but was only able to make two 3-pointers in the entire fourth quarter, as Sunny Hills slowed the tempo and wasted time on the clock to seal the win.

Fullerton will be back on the road Friday night as they will play Buena Park in search of their first league win.
