Lady Warriors dominate Lancers

Troy Girl’s Basketball rolled past Sunny Hills 75-31 behind senior Naomi Hunt’s 25 points Friday night at home.

Troy Head Coach Roger Anderson instructs team during a timeout in the
fourth quarter.

The Lady Warriors started out strong hitting shots from all over the floor. Hunt, a Long Beach State commit, hit two three-pointers and scored 8 points in the first quarter to help the Warriors gain a 23-11 lead.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Warriors had their way with the Lancer defense. Troy’s defense frustrated the Lancer offense all night and helped them secure a 43-19 lead going into halftime.

The Warriors came out firing again in the third quarter behind senior Kianna Smith, a 5-Star recruit and Cal commit.

Smith heated up, showing off her ball handling skills and mid-range jumper, scoring 13 points in the second half and 17 total.

Hunt also added 12 points in the second half, and finished with five 3-pointers under her belt. Smith and Hunt accounted for more than half of the Warriors points in their route of the Lancers.

Even with the large lead the Troy defense didn’t let up in the second half and only allowed Sunny Hills to score just 3 points in the fourth quarter.

Troy improved to 2-0 in league play with the win, and 9-5 overall. Sunny Hills is now 1-1 in league play and 12-6 overall. Troy’s next game will be against Redondo Union at Serra High School on Monday the 16th. Sunny Hills will play Sonora at Sonora High School on Tuesday the 17th.
