The Sunny Hills Lady Lancers basketball team is on to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs after defeating Grand Terrace 63-41 behind a 22-point performance by Jessica Barrow.
Barrow and Senior Molly Grumbo led the way early on for the Lady Lancers with 6 points each to help put them up 15-9 by the end of the quarter.
The second quarter saw the Lady Lancers (17-11) open up a larger lead on the Lady Titans (11-14).
Sunny Hills repeated their first quarter offensive performance by scoring 15 points again, including four from Barrow.
The Lady Titans could not match the Lady Lancers scoring yet alone score.
Grand Terrace went scoreless in the second quarter which in turn saw their once six point deficit turn into a 21 point deficit at the half.
Early on in the second half the Lady Titans were able to put points on the scoreboard, but Sunny Hills offense did not slow down.
Largely through points in the paint by Barrow, who scored 8 points in the quarter, and converting from outside the arc the Lady Lancers sustained their lead and even widened the gap to 25 points between the two at one point in the quarter.
Though the Lady Titans had a much improved offensive performance in the third quarter, they still had trouble from the field.
On more than a few possessions Grand Terraces shot attempts failed to reach the rim and many drives to the basket ended up as blocks by the Lady Lancers if not turnovers.
The Lady Lancers continued to be in control of the game in the fourth and final quarter.
In a quarter where Sunny Hills reached the free throw line frequently, they capitalized on the Lady Titans lack of discipline to sustain their big lead.
Barrow and Lauren Scambray, Who had 13 points in the game, went a combined eight for eight from the line to help the Lady Lancers keep the game well out of the Lady Titans reach.
Though the game was far from close in the final quarter, Grand Terrace put up their best offensive quarter of the night.
Led by six points in the final quarter from Asia Anderson the Lady Titans put up 17 points to end the game with 41 total.
Sunny Hills will take on San Jacinto on Saturday in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs.
