After winning its last two games in the Coach Takk Classic, Fullerton looked to keep its momentum going against in city rival Rosary. For a while, it looked like the Indians would be able to end the Royal’s fi-gamvee win streak, but a last inning offensive push was enough to give Rosary a 5-4 win over Fullerton.

Fullerton (5-5) scored four runs on seven hits and gave up three errors. Starting pitcher Ceci Lopez had four strikeouts on 11 hits with four earned runs in the loss.

Rosary (8-2) scored  five runs on 11 hits and committed no errors. Amelia Wiercioch struck out three on seven hits and earned the win for the Royals.

Lopez had trouble early, as she got into a bases loaded jam with one out in the first inning. However, she was able to strikeout the next two batters to end the top of the first.

In the Indian’s first at bat, Lopez did damage in the batter’s box as well, as she hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

The second inning went by quick as both Lopez and Wiercioch had 1-2-3 innings.

In the top of third, junior Nicole Siess gave Rosary its first run of the game with an RBI single to left field, bringing in Katelyn Christensen.

Fullerton responded back in their next at bat, with Kristin Smith grounding out to third base, but with Alexia Silvas on third, she headed home on the throw. First baseman Andrea Hester threw the ball after recording the out, but catcher Sarah Ellersick couldn’t get the tag on time, as Silvas scored to give Fullerton a 4-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Rosary added its second run of the game after Fullerton’s third baseman Kristin Smith couldn’t get a hold of a groundball, and Christensen scored from third to make it 4-2.

Both pitchers dominated for the next inning as Fullerton still had its 4-2 lead going into the sixth.

With the time limit approaching, Rosary needed to at least tie the game to avoid the loss. With runners on the corners and two outs, Ellersick singled to center field to bring in Sydney Markos and make it a one run game. On the following at bat, Siess doubled to center field to bring in both base runners, giving Rosary a 5-4 lead and her third RBI of the game.

Hester flied out to left field to end Rosary’s three-run inning, and give Fullerton its only chance to come back.

Lopez singled to right center field with one out, but the right fielder Markos threw Lopez out as she tried to extend her hit to second base. On the following at bat, Mayra Encinas grounded out to Wiercioch to end the game after six innings.

Fullerton’s next game will be out on the road, as they will take on the Anaheim Colonists at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
