In a 3-0 game on Saturday afternoon, the Hornets (38-4) defeated Antelope Valley (17-25-1) to advance onto the next stage in the California Community College Athletic Association softball championship.

Timely hitting and effective pitching were key in the game. Fullerton’s Allyson Fuentes threw seven shutout innings, holding the Marauders to two hits while the Hornets counted nine of their own. Freshman Milene Mendoza batted in two runs in the third inning and sophomore Cassidy Hornung nailed an inside-the-park homerun in the fourth.

The win sets up the Hornets for a postseason series with Cerritos College (30-12). The first game of this best-of-three series will be played at Fullerton College at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10.

Undefeated across 21 conference games this season, the Hornets beat Cerritos 8-0 in their single regular season meeting earlier this year. This is also a rematch of last season’s second round best-of-three series, which was played at Cerritos and won by the Falcons two games to one.
