On Thanksgiving day, families across America prepare the biggest dinner of the year, attend church services, and watch sporting events. The following weekend, many students have their time free from their schoolwork to enjoy that time with friends and family.
Figuring out how to spend this break without anyone to celebrate with can be daunting since sometimes many of us can not be with families and participate in that tradition. Here are four alternatives you can do to enjoy this year’s Thanksgiving holiday.
1. Head to the movie theaters
Although most places are closed in observance of the holiday, the movie theaters remain open. Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to catch a film that releases on the holiday. Popcorn, candy and soda easily replace turkey and stuffing. Some movies that recently came out are “Wicked”, “Moana 2” and “Gladiator II”.
2. Get out in nature.
Trails are always open to the public. You can go on a run, or enjoy the scenery of nature on a trail, or ride your bike. Exercising is proven to boost your mood and improve overall mental health and physically help improve balance and increase overall strength in the bones.
3. Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
This year marks the 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. It is a spectacle of cheer bringing new floats every year. There will be a cornucopia of performers, clown crews, and marching bands all parading around New York City streets. This year’s new floats include Disney’s Minnie Mouse, Extraordinary Noorah, Elf on a Shelf, Dragon Ball Z’s Goku, Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse, and Marshall from Paw Patrol. It will be broadcasted live on NBC.
4. Head to the Rinks.
The Rinks in Anaheim will be hosting a hockey tournament on Thanksgiving Day. Hockey players from all ages will be competing with each other for the championship. It is a great way to get out and participate in a sports event.
