The 57th Annual Grammy Awards aired on CBS last Sunday with LL Cool J hosting. There is always much anticipation to see which artists walk away with what awards and this year was no different.
In 2014, Beyonce shocked her fans with a surprise album that turned out to be nominated for one of the best albums of the year.
Australian rap artist, Iggy Azalea, delivered catchy hit after catchy hit, while Bastille continued to gain a larger fan base than they already had.
The real winner of the night was Sam Smith, who walked away with four Grammy status including: Best Pop Vocal, Best New Artist, Best Song Of The Year, and Best Record Of The Year. He thanked his inspiration (ex-boyfriend) for breaking his heart because he was able to write the emotional “In The Lonely Hour.”
There were a large variety of performances throughout the night that were a bit underwhelming compared to last year but nonetheless entertaining.
They started the show off with an exciting performance from AC/DC. The band is reuniting for a European tour in promotion of their new album that was released last November. Country artist Miranda Lambert strutted the stage with an upbeat performance of her new single “Little Red Wagon” and Katy Perry toned it down with a more emotional performance of her single “By The Grace Of God.”
Best Latin Pop Album nominee, Juanes, performed his new single “Juntos” bringing a little Latin flavor to the show. One of the more interesting performances of the night was Sia’s “Chandelier.” The Australian-artist delivered a compelling performance that included Saturday Night Live Alum Kristen Wiig and Sia’s travelling dance companion Maddie Ziegler.
Sia stood in the back corner singing to the wall in the set not showing her face once during the entire performance. Madonna was her usual quintessential self giving us a performance full of theatrical dance moves and as loved as she may be by the world, her age is inevitably catching up to her.
Beck stole the award for Best Album Of The Year and you better believe that Kanye West had something to say about that. West was actually the number one trending artist after jumping on stage during Beck’s acceptance, before walking off in silence. Later on E!’s post-awards show, West stated that Beck should have given his award to Beyonce.
The 2015 Grammy Awards weren’t as exciting as last year, but the lucky winners who took home Grammy awards were well deserved, despite what some may think. If music this next year is anything like the albums that were released in 2014, then fans have nothing to worry about and can look forward to another year of great songs.
