The annual Beat Café Open Mic held by the Cadena Center called on the artistic talents of Fullerton College students.

The Tuesday show brought out lyrical artists like Chris Douglas, who has been a FC student for three years as a kinesiology major. Douglas is now taking a semester off to focus on what he wants for his future. His performance was spiritually inclined and all about truth.

“I love truth, in life, you got to stand for something. Don’t follow other people, don’t be a sheep,” said Douglas.

Tracy Wallace, who performed with Douglas and as a solo act, is originally from Jamaica. She moved to California in 2008 and transferred to FC this semester. She is majoring in sociology and will transfer to Cal State Fullerton next semester.

She has performed before at an event for EOPS, but this was her first performance at a show like the Beat Café.

“I have always dreamed of becoming a singer”, said Wallace.

She performed a duet with Douglas, she sang and he rapped to a Alicia Keys song.

The center has been hosting the Beat Café since 2009, welcoming performers to get on stage and express themselves in the form of poetry, songwriting and music.
