Controversial Commonwealth development pushed back until March

Fullerton’s City Council was not satisfied with the Red Oaks Investments project plans. With a 4-1 vote against the apartment plans, they were sent back for revisions during January’s  council meeting.

The single no vote came from Mayor Bruce Whitaker, who said he likes to vote only on complete projects, not ones that need alterations.

The controversial project plans to build 295 housing units within two buildings of the Commonwealth and Chestnut intersection. This has become a major concern for residents.

Nearly 40 speakers took the podium prior to the council’s January vote. The majority who spoke were not in favor of the development and voiced their concerns. Residents worry that parking and traffic will become an even greater issue. Others believe the property taxes will be beneficial to the city of Fullerton.

The neighborhood’s concerns will be on hold for a month longer until the Red Oak’s investment project is back up for discussion in March.
