A Lexus RX 350 was overturned on its driver-side after colliding with a Ford Escape on the intersection of Berkeley Ave. and Lemon St. on Tuesday around 5 p.m.
According to witness Leiah Thomas, a Fullerton College student, the female driver of the Escape was driving North on Lemon St. to make a left on Berkeley Ave. when it struck the RX 350, traveling East on Berkeley Ave. to make a left on Lemon St., on its passenger side causing it to flip over.
“All of a sudden you just hear the screeching and see the Escape impact the side of the Lexus,” Thomas said. “She [Ford Escape] turned into the Lexus and it hit really hard and then it slid on its side [Lexus].”
Cristian Cuellar a La Habra resident was dropping his girlfriend off at school when he heard the accident and rode his bicycle to the scene.
Cuellar witnessed the female driver of the Lexus who was stuck insider her car being comforted by other witnesses and decided to see how he could help.
“I went to see if she was OK and try to get her mind off any injuries she may have had,” Cuellar said. “I put my arm through her sun roof and was hugging her and talking with her.”
Cuellar added that the driver of the Lexus was cognitive but mentioned to him that she recently had a back surgery and due to shock was unsure what she was feeling in terms of pain.
The Fullerton Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut through the roof of the Lexus and free the driver. The female driver was placed on a stretcher and placed inside a CARE ambulance.
The female driver of the Ford Escape declined to comment on the incident.
