Wintertime usually means spending time with loved ones, sending and receiving gifts, decorations and religious holidays just to name a few. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to spend this time of year with their families and in some cases, it’s due to military deployments.
The Veterans Resource Center at Fullerton College helps bring the holidays overseas by sending love in the form of care packages to the men and women who serve in the United States Military.
They hosted their annual care package drive during the month of November and received enough donations to fill 123 boxes to send off to those deployed this season.
Employees of the VRC celebrated the amount of boxes they were able to fill, especially since it beat last year’s final count of 118.
With that amount of boxes to pack, it normally takes four to six hours to get everything together, but with the amount of people helping, it only took them an hour and a half.
The Cosmetology department even offered to assist with packing, but by the time they arrived, everything had been completed. They were able to at least help with moving boxes to the side of the office.
More donations are still expected to come in, and the last day that they are accepting anything else will be on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in Room 518. Also, addresses of entire companies or specific units are still being accepted.
