The West Coast installment of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open its gates Apr. 7 at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The long-awaited immersive environment will bring to life J.K. Rowling’s compelling story by transporting fans into the world of Harry Potter.
From the snow-capped roofs and cobblestone streets to the iconic Hogwarts castle at the heart of it all, the new Harry Potter real-life adaptation will stay true to the wizarding world that was painted out across the span of seven books and eight movies.
The themed land will include a family-friendly ride, The Flight of Hipplogriff and will serve as Universal Studios Hollywood’s first ever outdoor rollercoaster.
According to Universal Studios, The Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey lies within the walls of Hogwarts as a 3D-HD thrill ride that will “further immerse guests in an already engaging storyline.”
Sporting Quidditch-inspired 3D goggles, Potterheads and parkgoers alike will travel along with Harry on his journey while spiraling and pivoting in this 360-degree adventure ride.
The bustling grounds of Hogsmeade will invite guests to try some of the story’s most authentic foods and drinks in notable settings like The Three Broomsticks with its aged rustic tavern appeal.
According to Universal Studios, guests will be given their choice of English dishes like bangers and mash, Shepard’s pie and fish and chips in a countryside setting with “custom-made wooden tables, chairs and benches, in a warm and inviting atmosphere taken straight from the wizarding world.”
With inspiration coming from old British taverns, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Hog’s Head pub will serve originally crafted draught beers and spirits special to this new land, such as Hog’s Head Brew, Dragon’s Scale, Wizard’s Brew and Fire Whisky.
The ever anticipated sweet butterscotch float Butterbeer will be available at Hogsmeade stables, where it can be served traditionally hot or frozen. Carts serving pumpkin juice and Gilly Water will also be available.
No wizarding world would be complete without the shops and stores Harry, Ron, Hermione and friends ventured through during their time at Hogwarts. Universal Studios says the new adaptation will offer guests eight retail venues that “will add to the authenticity of the land”, including Honeydukes, Ollivanders wand shop, Owl Post, Zonko’s Joke Shop, Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, Dervish and Banges, Gladrags Wizardwear and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods.
In preparation for the opening in just Apr. 7, Universal Studios Hollywood currently has Harry Potter merchandise available for in-park guests, some of which includes wands, robes, and other collectables, allowing just a peek into the exciting world to come.
