Preparations are currently underway for Fullerton’s second annual Day of Music Festival, a day-long event that stretches all cross the city. Grits Fullerton is set to host a fundraiser for the non-profit event on Sunday from 3 – 6 p.m.
A portion of every check will go towards the making of Day of Music festival which will take place later this year on the summer solstice, Jun. 21.
Citizens of Fullerton can find music playing in coffee shops, at parks or even hair salons.
The festival’s founder Glenn Georgieff found inspiration for the event after a trip to France. While in Paris he had the opportunity to experience a holiday that is dedicated to music: Fete de la Musique.
Literally translating to “Day of Music” Georgieff brought back this holiday with him to Fullerton and began to conceptualize the idea of bringing it local.
The event will take place all day and in various parts of the town. Many restaurants in the area will be serving dinner with a side of music.
It is an interactive experience. Last year harmonicas were made available for people to play and ukuleles strummed in a nearby park with about 26 locations participating, not including street performers.
Georgieff, his interns and volunteers are a non-profit organization. This means funding for this event is all done through the generosity of the community.
“Our community has been very generous with us,” said Georgieff as he explained the amount of support the city has shown for their organization Making Music.
Aside from this Sunday’s fundraiser, Georgieff holds fundraising events at other restaurants and receives the proceeds of paintings sold at a local gallery.
With preparation underway, Day of Music Fullerton is sure to be a chart topper. For more information on this event, check out their website.
