Police and emergency personnel were called to the Fullerton Transportation Center this morning after a homeless man was hit by a freight train.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 31.

Witnesses say they saw the victim walking along the train tracks with his back to the train.

Tim Barham of Fullerton witnessed the incident from a nearby bridge said that the victim did not acknowledged the train at all.

“He did not dive, it did not look like suicide,” Barham said, “He didn’t react to the train at all, didn’t notice the horns blowing behind him.”

The freight train clipped the victim’s right shoulder and he was unresponsive after, according to Barham.

The victim who has not been identified was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

It is also unclear how fast the train was moving or if the train engineer attempted to stop the train prior to striking the victim.

Metrolink and Amtrak services along this route were halted as a result of this incident, services are now back to normal.
