The Horticulture department invites students, faculty and the general public to its annual spring plant sale on May 5, 6 and 12 here at Fullerton College.

Each year the department presents an array of new and unique plants.

“We offer more of the unusual plants, the ones you can’t find at the big box stores and some of the larger nurseries,” said Diane Komos, a laboratory technician in the Horticulture department.

The plant sale will feature herbaceous perennials, shade and house plants, California natives and drought tolerant plants, as well as hot and sweet peppers, tomatoes, succulents, vines and herbs.

Teachers, students and interns are hard at work in preparation for the three day event.

“It’s primarily organized as a fundraiser for our internship program,” said Jeff Feaster, Horticulture instructor at Fullerton College.

The spring plant sale is one out of three plant sales they offer every year. However, this one is specific to California-friendly plants.

“The spring sale is more focused on plants that are used in landscapes and our primary focus is drought-tolerant plants,” said Feaster.

Although this isn’t their biggest sale of the year, that being the tomato plant sale, a good turnout of about 300 to 400 people is expected to show up.

In addition, the department makes “anywhere between $8,000 to $9,000 for all three days,” Komos added.

The sale will start on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continue through Sunday, May 6 from 12-3 p.m. The last day of the sale will be the following Saturday on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
