Irma Ramos, New Vice Chancellor for Human Resources

Teachers and staff members came by the 100 building for a welcoming reception to meet the newly appointed district vice chancellor for human resources.

“We’re excited to welcome Ramos from [the] North Orange County District for this important position. She has just started after the retirement of Jell Horsley last year,” said FC President Rajen Vurdien.

For several years Ramos has been a mentor for the Puente program in which mentors and students become partners for the whole academic year. She previously worked at Mount San Jacinto College and Long Beach College and is planning on doing the same for Fullerton College as well.

Ramos understands how important it is to have someone for the student body to look to for guidance.

“When you work in an office environment you don’t really get to see [the] student. So one of the ways to still click with the students is to be one of the mentors in this college,” said Ramos. “So now I’m in a position to do that, I want to continue to do that.”

One of the major things she is planning to start is an online applicant tracking system for submitting job applications online rather than filling out paper applications and going to the district. With this new technology people would be able to apply online from home or the office.

Elain Oropeza, a financial aid technician firmly believes that “the programs and the series they could offer throughout the district can help mainstream the process that we have to deal with on a daily basis and getting different forms for students hopefully in an efficient way and throughout technology.”

FC is hiring 20 new faculty instructors who can use this system and the same thing applies for other jobs for the bookstore and an office position.

“It’s just wonderful to be here. Everyone is warm and welcoming, I just feel at home,” said Ramos.

Ramos sees the need to support teachers and the staff because at the end of the day, they are supporting the students.
