The Hornets break their tie streak Friday with a win in the second half against the Orange Coast College Pirates, 2-0.

Holding a strong defense, the Hornets were determined towards victory through out the game. The defenders were quick on their feet, protecting their goal and were able to clear plays quickly. This prevented the Pirates from getting too close to score for the majority of the game.

The Hornets put on a strong defense in the first half, keeping the majority of the play on the Pirates half of the field.

A brief moment of excitement was had in the game as Chris Ryan, while going to make a play for the ball, ended up hitting heads with the Pirate’s goalie. Neither player was injured and both were able to continue playing.

The first half came to an end with the Hornets holding off the Pirates to keep a 0-0 score.

The second half was a slow start, but a moment of tension was had when Hornets goalie Anthony Rodriguez ran out to clear the ball, but the Pirates managed to take it back right away.

However, Rodriguez made a run back to the goal in time to make an impressive save and kept the Pirates off the scoreboard.

Fullerton came back with determination as freshman Gerardo Leon-Camberos scored their first goal of the game with an assist from forward Jonathan Aleman, making the score 1-0.

Still being persistent, the Hornets sophomore Alejandro Castillo made a break for the goal and scored, to take the lead 2-0.

The Hornets continued to keep their defense strong through the remainder of the second half to prevent the Pirates from scoring. They ended the game with a 2-0 win.

“I think we had little bit of a slow start, but I think overall all our players continued to battle through the game. We’re a young group so I think every day we’re just trying to learn a little bit more,” said head coach Greg Aviles.
