Sunny Hills began its league opener against Fullerton Tuesday night on an 11-2 run, but it seemed like Sunny Hills was on a run the entire game, as the Lady Lancers defeated the Indians in dominate fashion 61-27.
Fullerton, who has not won a game since their season opening win back in November, struggled shooting the ball, as the did not score more than nine points in any of the four quarters Tuesday night.
The Indians were plagued with turnovers throughout the game, as they committed 20 turnovers, while the Lancers committed only 7 turnovers. Sunny Hills (12-5, 1-0) also won the battle behind the arc by a big margin, as they were able to get nine 3-pointers in, while Fullerton did not convert a single 3-point attempt.
Fullerton (1-14, 0-1) was able to score 7 points in a row in the first quarter to cut the Lancer lead to 11-9, but Sunny Hills grew their lead back immediately with a 14-2 run that went into the second quarter. That run proved to be a huge plus for Sunny Hills, as the Indians managed to only score 5 points in the second quarter and see themselves going into halftime down 32-14.
Junior guard Lauren Scambray led the way in scoring for the Lancers with 16 points, and 3-pointers from Molly Grumbo and Kayli Arii helped put the Indians away in the third quarter.
Scoring only 6 points in the third quarter and finding themselves down 47-20 going into the final quarter, Fullerton tried to get themselves back into the game, but were only able to get 7 more points before the final buzzer went off. Junior forward Vanessa Martinez led the Indians in scoring with 9 points, and senior guard Susan Valdez added 7 points.
The Indians travel to Buena Park on Friday in search of their second win of the season, while Buena Park also looks to avenge losing their opening league game.
