The city of Fullerton has received more funding to preserve land at West
Coyote Hills as open space.

The Warne Family Endowment Fund is a $50,000 grant that will be used to
help protect endangered species and habitats at West Coyote Hills.

The funding adds to a $2 million grant received earlier this year by the
San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles River and Mountain Conservancy.

The two grants will be put towards purchasing Neighborhood 1, an area of 10
acres estimated at $9.6 million that will add to the 72-acre Robert E. Ward
Nature Preserve.

The city’s ultimate goal for the preserving this land is to protect
endangered species like the gnat-catcher and the burrowing owl, and to
re-vegetate the area with California native plans. As well as create an
intercity bike trail that connects Fullerton and La Habra.
