The event was filled with energy from start to finish, showcasing a wide range of incredible talents. It opened and closed with strong performances that left a lasting impression on the audience. Throughout the program, many participants displayed their vocal abilities by covering popular songs, while others impressed with original compositions that highlighted their creativity and musicality. Beyond singing, there were dance routines, including a captivating breakdancing act. Each performance was met with enthusiastic applause and cheers, as the audience showed their excitement and appreciation for the diverse talents on display.

The International Club hosted its first-ever, FC’s Got Talent, night at the Wilshire Auditorium on Nov. 21, 2024. The event featured a lineup of 25 performers, each showcasing their unique talents to the audience. A raffle was held during the intermission, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. The show provided a platform for students to share their skills and creativity, highlighting the diverse talent within the college community.

“Today’s talent show totally exceeded my expectations! Everyone who performed was absolutely amazing and the raffle was super fun too.” said FC student Mimi Wei.“The breakdancing was so sick and everyone was cheering and clapping. A 10 out of 10 if you ask me.”

Apart from the dances and singing, one act stood out for its unique approach—a performer delivered a spoken word piece.

“What inspires me to write is to have a voice and speak up.” said performer Bayyinah “To be able to have a voice and stand up for yourself and others; it’s very powerful and I love that about poetry.”

It was revealed during the beginning of the show that they would have winners and give out prizes. First place winner would take a $150 prize and a $100 prize for second place. Two winners were announced that night. Tony Rivera who played the electric guitar was nominated for first place based on the popular vote.

“This was my first time performing in front of an audience, the only time playing in front of people was my mom and sister,” said Rivera. “I was so nervous before going up, the entire time I was performing my legs were shaking.” Throughout his performance the audience would erupt into cheers as he played.

Rivera initially revealed that he wouldn’t be performing on the day of the event, saying he couldn’t make it. However, at the last minute, he asked if he could still participate, ended up performing, and won the popular vote.

Guitarist Sebastian Garcia, pianist Ricky Tedtaotao and singer Ashley Moon were awarded the runner up prize.

The International Club took 3 months to plan this event and had two weeks to set everything up for its first talent show. Local stores from downtown Fullerton helped sponsor the event.

“We were really thankful for our team that we have and the support we got from our faculty advisor,” said David Maurice, president of the International Club. “As well as the sponsorships we were able to get.”

Though scared that they wouldn’t have enough acts, many students pulled through. “We included everyone that auditioned and did not have to cut anyone,” said Samiy Castillo Bolivar, vice president of the International Club. “I got goosebumps, this show was so amazing and I am so grateful to be a part of something like this.”

Both the President and the Vice President plan on bringing, ‘Fullerton College’s got talent,’ back next fall semester and plan on doing an event during the spring semester.

“As a community college there aren’t a lot of events like this, so we were happy to have the opportunity to bring everyone together,” said Bolivar.
