The Fullerton softball team delivered a dominant performance in a sweep over Santa Ana at Hornet Softball Field. The Hornets set the tone from the opening inning. Fullerton starting pitcher Grace Workman set the tempo in the circle, mixing up her pitches to keep the Dons off balance at the plate.
The Hornets’ defense made plays behind Workman, while the bats came alive with timely hits. In the second inning, with Fullerton leading 3-0, Carlie Danovich smoked a hard-hit ball into right-center field. The ball went up against the wall. Danovich raced all the way to third base for a leadoff triple, setting up for another big inning.
After left fielder Juliana Ursino reached base on a hit-by-a-pitch, designated player Lisa Villanueva came up to the plate. Villanueva launched a three-run homer to left, making it 6-0. Villanueva struck again in the fourth inning.
Leading 7-0, Villanueva blasted her second home run of the game to left, a solo shot. Villanueva’s teammates poured out of the dugout to greet her at the plate. Fullerton secured an 8-0 victory in five innings, completing the three-game series sweep over Santa Ana.
