The new sub in town

How many places are there in Orange County that can make a really good submarine sandwich?

One of the best things about Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches is their homemade award-winning bread. The most important part of a delicious sandwich is: the bread. If the bread isn’t fresh then the sandwich is doomed for failure.

Walking into the new joint at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton smelled just as a sandwich shop should; filled with aromas of freshly baked bread, cut meats and veggies.

The menu was pretty extensive ranging from regular 8-inch subs to “Giant Subs”, which is basically an 8 inch sub containing double the meat. It’s very hard to make a decision with the variety of options that they offer, so brace yourself.

This sandwich shop has a service called “Freaky Fast Delivery”, which delivers your sandwiches in “freaky fast” time. Of course, this service comes at a cost depending on your order. If you’re lucky, they’ll even give you your sandwich before you’re done paying. Their “Freaky Fast” delivery also pertains to how fast they construct the sandwich you order for dining in. You can find out more information about this service online.

Some would make the mistake of only ordering a sandwich and nothing more, but Jimmy John’s makes their own brand of potato chips that must be eaten with their sandwich, extra calories and all.

Anxiously tear through the neatly wrapped sandwich and you’ll find an 8 inch sub overflowing with lettuce and meat, but beware, after you take the first bite you might not stop until it’s finished.

Italian Night Club Giant Sub: The first thing that is quite noticeable is the delicious bread. The texture of the bread was a little chewy, but it just compliments the sandwich as a whole. The meat had a lot of flavor and the Italian dressing was a nice addition to the salami and Italian capicola, which is a spicy Italian ham. You can almost never go wrong with provolone, especially in a sandwich with Italian meats, so the cheese is a must as well.

Considering that their Giant Subs are supposed to have “double the meat” over their regular subs, it didn’t seem like the Italian Night Club filled that expectation. Although the meat was very tasty, their meats are sliced a lot thinner in comparison to other sandwich shops. It’s hard to beat the $7 price for a good sub.

Jimmy John’s is a franchise sandwich shop with a few locations here in the OC and it’s sort of like a gourmet Subway, but their sandwich quality is a lot. It’s definitely a great addition to the city of Fullerton and a very close drive for both Fullerton College and Cal State Fullerton students.

Jimmy John’s is located at 1309 S. Harbor blvd, and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. everyday.
