The 2013 Eyegore Awards was the perfect way to kick off the opening day of Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.
The evenings recipients were acknowledged for their accomplishments in the science-fiction and horror world.
The red carpet was filled with media waiting for a chance to interview the big stars that night. John Murdy, Creative Director of Halloween Horror Nights, was one of the first to hit the carpet. Fans were screaming his name from the other side of the gate and even his press handlers were not able to prevent Murdy from jumping the barrier and taking pictures with the fans.
Ozzy Osbourne and fellow Black Sabbath musician Geezer Butler made a short appearance on the carpet before heading into the awards. Sharon and Kelly Osbourne were charming during their red carpet interviews. They took extra time answering questions and seemed to really enjoy joking around with reporters along the way.
The highlight for many was the appearance of the little sinister character Chucky. Chucky, along with fellow cast members Brennan Elliot, Fionna Dourif, Danielle Bisutti and Don Mancini from the new movie, “Curse of Chucky” posed for the cameras and stopped for pictures with fans along the carpet.
Actress Christa Campbell, the band Echosmith and several other actors, musicians, and horror fans made their way down the carpet. All the celebrities, media and Eyegore Award honorees made their way into the Globe Theatre as the awards ceremony began.
Actress McKenzie Westmore was the host of the evening. She gave credit to all the talent in the room and stated that she was honored to death to be presenting the Eyegore’s of the evening.
The first Eyegore Award went to producer Jason Blum and actor Leigh Whannell in honor of “Insidious.”
The next Eyegore winner was introduced as the, “baddest man to ever make good in Hollywood.” Danny Trejo was honored for being the voice of the new maze El Cucuy at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. In his speech, Trejo spoke about his career history with action and horror roles. He thanked God for his scary face and laughed about how it got him in trouble the first half of his life, but when he found Hollywood it all turned around.
Melissa McBride from the AMC show, “The Walking Dead” was presented with the third Eyegore of the night in honor of the show’s huge success and for “The Walking Dead maze” at Halloween Horror Nights. Actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on the popular show, also accepted the Eyegore on location in Atlanta filming the newest season.
“Men want to be him and women want to be with him,” said Westmore during the introduction to the fourth Eyegore winner.
Bruce Campbell has been in more than 50 motion pictures and was honored for his film, “The Evil Dead.” His speech brought laughs and cheers from the crowd as he joked that his last award was for Little League.
“This Eyegore will hold down the finest papers on my desk,” joked Campbell, when receiving the demon-like award.
Sharon Osbourne was brought on stage to present the last award. She talked about the 45 years of Black Sabbath music and how they are the darkest performers in rock-n-roll history. She presented the final 2013 Eyegore Award to Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler in honor of the new 3D Black Sabbath maze, which features tracks from the band’s latest album, “13.”
Winners throughout the night were brought up on stage one last time as the 2013 Eyegore Awards concluded and were taken into the park to indulge in their scary creations.
