Saturday, March 26 the Wintour is Coming line up took the stage for their second to last show of this tour. Bands on the itinerary that night at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre were PVRIS. Awolnation and Fall Out Boy, of course.
American rock band PVRIS, pronounced Paris, kicked off the night. As lead singer Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, better known as Lynn Gunn, made her way on stage concert attendees hollered with excitement and eagerness to get the night started.
While the night sky was started to darken over the amphitheater, PVRIS played “St. Patrick” and “My House” off their debut album “White Noise.” The vocals of Gunn filled the venue and graced the ears of concert goers that decided to take their seats early that night.
The second band to take the stage that night was Awolnation. The band entered with a mysterious vibe, using minimal light and artificial fog floating over the stage.
The silhouette of front man Aaron Bruno can be seen ever so slightly as the electronic rock band officially started their set. Before creating Awolnation, Bruno was in the bands Home Town Hero and Under the Influence of Giants. Now this Red Bull Records band, Awolnation, may have a different sound that the headlining band but the crowd that was on their feet dancing didn’t seem to mind.
Awolnation brought a funky electronic vibe that took over the amphitheatre and reached up to the fans sitting on the lawn in the very back.
Attendees that did not know who this act was before arriving had the opportunity to join in on the fun when Bruno lead the crowd in sing their popular song, “Sail.”
The band recently announced that they are hitting the road this Summer with bands Death From Above, 1975 and IRONTOM.
Last but not least the four piece Chicago band, Fall Out Boy, took the stage to serenade the sold out crowd.
Began their set with the fast paced song “Irresistible” off of their latest album,”American Beauty/American Psycho” the crowd joined in for the most anticipated performance of the night.
It did not take long for the flames to erupt behind the four piece band during their powerful song, “Phoenix.” Fans towards the middle of the crowd could be heard saying that they can feel the heat of the flames, which continued to go off throughout the set.
About halfway through their set-list lead singer, Patrick Stump, could be seen on the stage with only a piano. Performing their song “Disloyal Order of the Water Buffaloes,” Stump soulful voice pleased the ears of the audience. Easily transitioning into their ballad, “Save Rock and Roll,” with a portrait of the late David Bowie appearing on the screen above the band.
Fall Out Boy rocked the rest of their set with old and new favorites like “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy,” “Dance, Dance” and “Centuries” before the stage went dark.
Fans were graced with speeches between songs from bassist, Pete Wentz. During one of these moments he mentioned that the band was headed back into the studio soon to record new music. Their previous album “American Beauty/American Psycho” was release on Jan. 16, 2015 and was nominated for favorite album and favorite group at the 2015 People’s Choice Awards.
The crowd chanted for the band to play an encore until their lungs gave out. After a few suspenseful minutes they finally ran back on stage to close out the night with “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)” and “Saturday.” Fans knew that once Wentz took off his bass that he was gearing up to scream his part in “Saturday.”
The last trick the band had up their sleeve to make the night as memorable as possible was a burst on confetti while Wentz made his way to the front of the crowd.
After the concert, fans stood in line to buy merchandise while sharing their favorite parts of the night preparing to hike their way back to their cars.
