The Hornets made a statement with the 79-18 homecoming win over Grossmont Saturday and picking up their sixth consecutive victory.

Despite getting pushed back as far as Grossmont’s 35-yard line, the Hornets came out with a strong start.

Hornet running back Kentavious Thomas went for a 7-yard run into the endzone giving Fullerton their first touchdown at only three minutes into the game.

Grossmont retaliated scoring on a 10-yard run by Nehemiah Brown. However, Griffin kicker Michael Ledesma missed the PAT.

Fullerton’s Dwayne Wood was intercepted by Cole Kidd. But the Griffins were unable to capitalize and the Hornets got possession.

It was all Fullerton from then on.  The Hornets scored 35 consecutive points.

Fullerton’s Jordan Hoy completed a clever reverse pass to Christian Williams who ran 65 yards cfor Fullerton’s second touchdown.

Hoy followed it with a wide-open pass to Deandre McNeal who ran 47 yards for another touchdown for the Hornets.

After slow progressions of first downs by the Hornets in the second quarter, Hoy again completed a 14-yard pass to Williams to score another touchdown

Hewlett took the ball into another Fullerton touchdown. The scoring kept coming when Hoy followed up with another touchdown bring the Hornet lead to 42-6 with 2 minutes left in the half

The Griffins’ responded in at the start of the second half with a 59-yard pass to Clewis from quarterback Spencer Moyer.

However, the Hornets showed no mercy with Justin Parcell’s blocking a Griffin kick. D’Angelo Ross completed the two-point conversion adding two more to the Hornet scoreboard.

Later in the third, Asante Wilder snagged a 20-yard pass from Hoy and hit the touchdown.

The Griffins attempted comeback back, but stood no chance against D’Angelo Ross, who captured a 26-yard interception and ran it in for another Hornet touchdown.

The Hornets (6-0, 1-0) kept scoring touchdown after touchdown. Hoy hit Jordan Huffman for a 16-yard score.  Then there was a 7-yard touchdown run followed by a 6-yard score both by Aundre Carter.

The Griffin’s scored a touchdown lat in the fourth quarter bringing it to 79-18.

The Hornet’s 79 touchdowns ties a team record. They Hornets last scored 79 points in 2013 game also against Grossmont.

Hoy was  eight away from completing 300 passing yards this game.  Williams finished with 87 yards and  two touchdowns for the Hornets.

“After a few touchdowns, we didn’t get too overconfident,” Hoy said. “This is a really big win for us.”

Tim Byrnes, Hornet head coach, was completely satisfied with the game’s outcome.

“Their players were rough and we were rough too,” Byrnes said. “But it all comes down to the end result and we answered back.”

The Hornets will travel to take on Saddleback College on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
