College-bound toddlers engage at KinderCaminata 2017

Walking on campus on Friday morning, you would expect to see a few students attending their classes. That picture quickly changed on Friday, April 28, when hundreds of kindergarteners came to explore and learn about their future in college.

Children from the school districts of Anaheim, La Habra and Fullerton attended the yearly event.

“We have 73 classes that are here. That’s 1,700 Kindergarteners!” said Karen Vernon, KinderCaminata coordinator.

Fullerton has hosted KinderCaminata for 23 years and continues to attract volunteers to this educational event.

KinderCaminata is a school-wide event with over 300 student volunteers and 50 faculty and staff that make this event happen year after year.

“I want to be a mermaid,” said Tegan Rodriguez, 5 years old, of what she wanted to be when she grew up because she likes to swim.

The event included campus classes, organizations and clubs that all contributed activities and information to the children.

The Hornet staff provided classes with a green screen experience and the Veteran’s center had an obstacle course where they could compete.

“It’s a great event to inspire these kids to think about college,” said Vernon.
