Many college students come into school without knowing what classes to take, and end up taking whatever is available. Although all classes will give you credit and add units to graduate not all are transferable.

The Transfer Achievement Program helps students figure out what classes they need to take to graduate, but also which classes are needed in order to transfer to a four-year college or university.

“TAP is a great program and if I wouldn’t have joined it, I wouldn’t have transferred on time,” said Yesenia Serna, a TAP student who has now transferred to CSUF. “As an incoming freshman it was difficult for me to get classes and right when I joined it Heather [Halverson] and Sunshine [Vidal] made sure i got the classes I needed. The program was extremely organized.”

The program provides benefits to students in support of their goals of transfering.

“Completing the ‘Golden Four’ (which is English, math, reading and speech) are required to transfer anywhere, so those are the toughest classes to get but since I’m a TAP student I got a reserved spot for all those classes in just my first two semesters at Fullerton College,” said Jeffrey Keichline.

In order to join a student should be eligible to to enroll in English 59 or 60 and/or Math 15, 20, or 40 and/or Reading 56 or 96 and the TAP section of Counseling 151. They also need to be available to attend classes Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You must be a student who has completed 15 or fewer units and be a full-time student.

The classes are much smaller than the regular classes, therefore you can get more attention from the professors. The main contributors are counselors Halverson and Vidal. Halverson teaches Counseling 101, and is the “future teacher” counselor which works with students interested in pursuing a career in teaching. Vidal teaches the Career and Life Planning course for the program.
