One dead after fiery crash in front of Hillcrest Park

A 26-year-old male was killed after his vehicle crashed into a Starbucks under construction on the intersection of Harbor and Brea Boulevard.

The crash occurred around 1:05 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2 with no other vehicles involved.

Mark Galvan Jr., Whittier resident, was driving northbound on Harbor in a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan when Galvan veered into a street light on an island in the intersection known as the “Brea Y”.

The vehicle then struck a traffic box and eventually propelled up an embankment where it stopped in front of a construction site for a new drive-thru Starbucks.

When first responders arrived, they found the vehicle engulfed in flames and Galvan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing as officers try to determine what factors led to the crash including speed, alcohol and drugs.

Galvan lived as a professional tattoo artist and worked as a manager at Chapman Avenue Tattoo.
