After a long and rigorous season, four lady Hornets earned their way onto the Orange Empire Conference all-conference teams.

Sophomore Eryka Springer was named to the OEC first team, this being her second selection, while fellow sophomores Natasha Trujillo and Nia Rodman, accompanied by freshman Sabrina Anguiano were named to the OEC second team.

“Last year I was named first team, and it’s just a great surprise and I’m really honored to be named first team all conference,” Springer said.

“I’ve been here for three years,” Rodman said. “I worked really hard, harder than I ever did in the other two years. It just means a lot.”

In a season that started off slow, followed by a mid season pick up that saw the team go an a five game winning streak, the Hornets fought through each game, leaving it all on the field. This exemplified by their victory that ended Cypress College’s 62-game win streak.

“We’ve always been rivals with Cypress and it really turned it around with how we were doing in the beginning,” Springer added.

With the playoffs on their mind, they kept their hot streak alive as they went on an 11-game win streak in April and fought for a playoff spot in the socal playoffs.

“We just had to find a way to come together,” Springer said. “We were working through some things on and off the field.”

For the fourth straight season the Hornets clinched a spot in the postseason to set up a first round game against Long Beach city college as a home playoff opener.

“It was a great feeling,” Anguiano said. “Being able to play that opening round on our home field and then me being able to make some cool plays at second in front of a big crowd was really fun.”

Following the victory, the Hornets were matched up with the Mt. San Antonio college, but could not get past them.

The Hornets’ 25-18 season ended with unfulfilled championships hopes, but the team believes their future is bright.

“I know we’re going to get it again next year,” Anguiano said. “We’re going to go even farther.”
