Who is Jason Richardson? What kind of player and person is he? So much talk and hype about this kid, but we haven’t seen his breakout performance yet?

Growing up as a kid, basketball was everything to Jason. He had big dreams of playing basketball on the big stage and one day playing for his favorite team the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following in the footsteps of his father who played at Northwestern University and sister who played for Pepperdine, Richardson proved that on the court the apple did not fall far from the tree.

He attended Junipero Serra High School where he was the team captain for two seasons. As a four-year honor student, he averaged 18.25 points, 4.7 assist, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game.

He helped lead his team a CIF victory in the IVAA Championships and was named Daily Breeze All-Area Team and First Team All-League in Del Ray Conference in 2014.

Arriving at California State University, Northridge, Jason had to find his way. In 2015-16 his first season, he played 30 games and only averaging 6.5 points and 2.4 assist.

His second season (2016-17), would be his comeback season, but it was a bit rough when you’re only playing in five games and averaging 3.4 points and 0.6 assists. Due to an injury, Jason was sidelined for the rest of the season and his time at California State University of Northridge was over.

Leaving Northridge and transferring to Fullerton College, the mindset was set and failure was not an option. He would have to prove he was not a bust and that he could still attack the basket, rebound and get his teammates involved.

Richardson arrived to Fullerton College as a shy, quiet, mild mannered student, with nothing but grades and basketball on his mind, but that all changed when he met head coach Perry Webster.

Coach Webster gave Richardson the inspiration he needed to be not only a good player, but leader and person. “Coach Perry, man there’s so much I can say. He’s a good guy and he changed my life, for the better.,” said Richardson.

As a Hornet Richardson averaged 18.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He became FC College Classic Tournament MVP, Orange Empire Conference 1st Team All-Conference, and ranked as one of the top PGs in Junior College ranks.

This fall Jason will be attending Southern Utah University where he will join a Thunderbirds team, that is fresh off its first-ever run to the Big Sky Conference Tournament Semifinals.

“Jason, he’s a special player. He has a bright future ahead of him and I know that he will do great when he goes to Southern Utah University,” stated Coach Webster.
