FC students swarmed the quad in the hot weather yesterday during Club Rush in search of ways to connect with their campus community.
Over 25 student clubs were in attendance, along with several Fullerton College campus departments from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Associated Students had a DJ blasting music from their booth while Health Services was distributing hand sanitizer to passersby.
To combat the warm weather, faculty members were distributing ice cold water bottles for free.
Clubs including the Sociology Club, Speech and Debate, College Church Club and A2MEND were out spreading awareness for the activities and camaraderies they each provided.
Religious Studies major, Brendan Kragel, was giving out more than just smiles and friendly greetings. His club, College Church Club, was offering lollipops and free spiritual advice for those who wanted some.
Kragel said, “We’re just here to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the students on campus here and meet them wherever they’re at in their faith. We’re all about love.”
Another religion club on campus that was tabling was the Interfaith Dialogue Club run by club president, Lyssa Holmes, a Psychology major. Holmes’s club is made up of students from different religions.
The students in her club have meetings discussing the achievements different world religions have brought about. During the summer semester, the club takes trips abroad to visit sacred locations important to religious history.
Sophmore, Madison Devries, was pulling double duty tabling for both the Speech and Debate Club and the German Club. Devries is President of the Speech and Debate Club and a club officer for the German Club. She has helped arrange a debate between the Cal State Fullerton Speech and Debate Club. They’ll compete in this semester’s Blumer competition, in November at CSUF.
Devries proudly stated, “In the last Blumer we had last semester, we won first place in all our competitions!”
This coming semester, the club will be debating the current U.S. space exploration policy.
Many African American students found a club that particularly catered to them. A2MEND (African American Male Education Network and Developing), advertised workshops, lectures and resources they offer to help the young African American students that desired career advice.
FC Student J.P. Wiafe, recently joined today and looks forward to the future club events.
Wiafe stated, “One of the ones coming up is “Natural Hair” where we’re going to talk about different kinds of hair and how to take care of your hair. The next thing we’re going to have is a barbecue on Sept. 19 at Room 513.”
The barbecue is supposed to be a community builder for the new club members.
Many clubs on display were different in their appeal. This didn’t stop the bonding that took place between the students.
If you missed out on Club Rush, it will be returning next week on Tuesday the 17. It will be held in the quad again from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
