Munchie Monday Review: Stubrik’s Steakhouse & Bar

Foodies and all those in favor of an unforgettable dining experience should stop by Stubrik’s in Fullerton.

Start off with the stuffed mushrooms if craving seafood, cheese and a touch of spice. Yes – it’s a $15 appetizer – but there’s snow crab piled high into huge mushroom caps. Then, they’re topped with a mildly spicy cajun cream sauce. There was just a hint of cheese, and after consulting the waitress, she revealed the chefs sprinkle parmesan on top.

If in the mood for bourbon, Stubrik’s old fashioned is great. It was just sweet enough without being too potent. It comes with bulleit and an orange rind but there was a slight walnut taste. This time looking at the menu resolved this question. The bartenders grace it with orange and walnut bitters.

All of their specialty cocktails are $12.

Which brings us to the next one – the lavender fields. It comes with sweet lavender, which the waitress confessed was a bit pungent so recommended only a tad. It also comes with giffard violette, lemon juice and sparkling water and they adorn it with an edible aromatic orchid. This was a very nice surprise and a unique addition to an already interesting menu.

Their cocktail menu could use more vodka-based beverages.

Next, came the lemon chicken with sautéed mushrooms and au gratin potatoes. The chicken was a bit overcooked but if drenched in the lemon butter, the problem was solved.

The mushrooms were tiny, but because they were bathing in seasoned butter and served at the perfect temperature- delish! Then, lightly breaded and browned potatoes with cheese and butter made for a delectable dish. They were a bit hot compared to the rest of the meal, but once the chicken was demolished, it was time to dive in like gang-busters.

If ever there were a good reason to catapult oneself out of ketosis, the tiramisu is it. Without question, it’s the best dessert. It was fluffy cinnamon and chocolate perfection. Seriously, if in the nearby vicinity of Fullerton with a dessert craving, make the walk or drive to Stubrik’s for the tiramisu.

The bananas foster isn’t so shabby either. Warning though – if prone to a sensitive stomach, this is not the dessert to try. The dessert consists of flambéed bananas in a rum and banana liquor caramel sauce over vanilla bean ice cream. Apparently, this is their most popular dessert and is another unique staple which gives Stubrik’s a “special occasion” designation.

Stubrik’s is especially enticing to the night owl because they’re open until 2 a.m. They also have dollar pool tables in an upstairs sort-of game room, with free pool on Mondays.

Stubrik’s Steakhouse & Bar is located at 118 E Commonwealth Avenue in Fullerton at Harbor Boulevard. There’s also a back entrance with a parking lot available off Harbor and Walnut.
