Fullerton College Scholarships

The Fullerton College Foundation Scholarship Committee now have their scholarship application period open to the Fullerton College students. The application period began Wednesday, Jan. 1, and all applications must be submitted online by Feb. 29.

Not many students attending Fullerton College know about, or have heard about the scholarships available to them. “I was never aware about this scholarship application period at all. I was never told any information about it at all. I was aware of other scholarships available, but never from the Fullerton College Foundation Scholarship Committee.” said Luis Garcia, a Political Science major.

There are a variety of scholarships available for Fullerton College students available to them. Some in which can be given based on their major. There are scholarships categorized such as: Mathematics & Computer Sciences ,Natural Sciences, Technology & Engineering, etc.

One of the many scholarships students can apply to from the Business & Computer Information Systems category is the Irma Laws Tapp Business Ed Teacher Scholarship. This scholarship is for one or more graduating sophomores who are majoring in Business Education and bound for a teaching degree and a certificate in the field. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a 3.0 GPA or better and shall be planning to transfer full-time to a four-year college or university in the next academic year.

Not only are their scholarships for specific fields of study, but also if a student wishes to do Study Abroad. One of these scholarships is the Bill & Nancy Sullivan International Studies Scholarship. This scholarship is for graduating or transferring students majoring in Social Sciences.

The requirements for students is that they must write an essay that demonstrates interest in International Studies or Global Studies and must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or above. The selection will be made by the Social Science Division and A. Lynne Negus.

There are also scholarships for Disability Support Services. The Jason Horn Memorial Scholarship is for a disabled student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and enrolled in a minimum of six-semester units. Students will also need two letters of recommendation, one submitted by a member of the Fullerton Community College faculty, staff or administration and another from a personal reference. The application form is available through the Disability Support Services Office.

Scholarships can also be awarded based on a student’s gender or ethnicity. For instance, the Fingerprints of Leadership- Michelle Wulfesteig Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time female student, currently taking a minimum of 12 units, with a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has overcome obstacles to achieve her goals.

Michelle Wulfesteig herself will be choosing the woman who consistently demonstrates the five fingerprints of leadership; transforming through mentorship, vision through purpose, being a servant first, encouraging the heart, and fostering a commitment to teamwork.
