Take-out Thursday: Zombee Donuts are eerily satisfying

You don’t have to be brain-dead to enjoy these sweet treats from Zombee Donuts, which is located on Chapman Avenue just down the street from Fullerton College.

This shop offers a variety of specialty and classic macabre-themed donuts, that are as delicious as they are eerie.

The Zombee Mascot is a classic fluffy buttermilk glazed donut decorated to look like a zombie with a half-dead face made of chocolate icing and a little bit of red icing oozing from the mouth. A really creepy delight.

Next was the Coffin. A soft buttermilk glazed bar filled entirely with Bavarian cream, topped with chocolate icing and decorated with a white cross. The Bavarian cream was rich, smooth and oozed out of the donut from the first bite. The cream was a nice balance to the bread and chocolate icing.

The caramel apple was deceptively flavorful for its small size. A buttermilk donut took to the next level by being filled with chunky applesauce and all topped with caramel sauce frosting. This little donut is perfect for satisfying any sweet apple cravings.

If one is looking to satisfy a chocolate craving while dealing with the stress of the day, look no further than the Death by Chocolate. A dense chocolate cake donut that is covered with a rich chocolate frosting, then all topped with Godiva chocolate chips.

Have dietary restrictions? Zombee Donuts has it covered with vegan versions of some of the classic donuts they have as well as a weekly special. This week was a cinnamon crunch donut that was just as tasty as the non-vegan option. It was a perfect cake-like donut covered in a glaze and topped with a crunchy cinnamon mixture.

Zombee Donuts also offers a selection of coffee and their own specialty drinks to pair with the donuts for a rounded set of treats.

One drink that stood out was the Dead Elvis. A classic blended mocha that had banana and swirls of peanut butter mixed in to create a sweet drink that paired well with their classic donut.

A dozen specialty donuts is $27, half & half (specialty and classic) is $21 and a classic dozen is $17. Individually, the specialty donuts are $2.75 each and the classic are $1.50 each.

Zombee Donuts is open for take-out only right now. They are located at 802 E. Chapman, Fullerton, California 92831 and can be contacted at 714-879-1078 for updated hours.
