With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, people are finding it harder to provide food for themselves and for their families. Pathways of Hope is helping Fullerton and Orange County residents with food banks like Cypress and Fullerton College, and at The Hub of Hope in Fullerton.
The Hub of Hope is located at 611 S. Ford Ave in Fullerton and its food bank hours are from Monday thru Friday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Similar to other businesses, the Hub of Hope employees are required to wear face masks and gloves during this transition with COVID-19.
The Hub has condensed its hours due to the coronavirus. “Our employees are doing our best to maintain a positive outlook while trying to serve and help our community. We are making it fun by providing great service while keeping a lighter tone during these crucial times,” said the Fullerton College’s Food Bank employee Joey Rocha.
“Changes have been made to stop the spread of the coronavirus, there will be no contact with any clients at this time. Since the Hub of Hope is still open for food, anyone receiving food can come to the door and get a bag of food. Every individual receiving the food will need to stay 6 feet apart from each other,” said Rocha.
As of right now, the Fullerton College food bank is closed but the regular food bank hours are open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fullerton College students are able to receive one bag of food a week with Pathways of Hope on campus.
Any non-Fullerton College students are also encouraged to visit The Hub of Hope in Fullerton if they need assistance. They were also able to assist 75 households with a bag of food and also provide housing assistance Monday-Friday over the phone.
Pathways of Hope are continuing their 40 years of providing essential needs, such as food, shelter, and housing to those in need. “Anyone anywhere can come can get a bag of food as long as they provide a name and family size. This has been a huge success to help our community and provide a helping hand for food and housing assistance,” said Rocha.
The services at Pathways of Hope have also fought to end homelessness that involves assisting people who have lost their jobs, have had their hours decreased or are unable to pay their monthly rent. Items such as bus passes and identification cards are also provided but are limited.
Other services include legal aid, employment services, and many more. Pathways of Hope are only allowing appointments over the phone at this time.
