Inside the award-winning Spring 2022 issue

Every semester, staff, editors and advisors at Inside Fullerton ensure that readers are being presented with the best quality magazine that spans topics of interest to all. From regional to national recognitions, Inside Fullerton has been awarded many distinctions.

The Journalism Association of Community Colleges, a Southern California institution, awarded the magazine with the awards of the best magazine cover, best magazine layout and design. Both of these distinctions were granted to Andrea Kohler, the magazine’s creative director for the past two editions. Other recognitions were given such as second place in news feature, won by Mariana E.G. who is the current editor-in-chief for the Fall 2022 edition. “When I heard I got an award for that particular story, it was almost surreal,” Mariana said.

Alexcia Negrete, the former editor-in-chief in Spring 2022, won third place for Reporter of the Year, by the Associated Collegiate Press. She competed at the national level with both community colleges and universities.

“The pressure of producing stories in the magazine was a struggle. Over the summer, you begin to feel like you have some doubts about yourself like I should have done this differently, ” said Negrete. The acknowledgement, not just hers but that of the whole team, was a really happy moment for her as the hard work was recognized. ”I am happy that we were able to win those.” Negrete later became an editor for the magazine and worked closely on the production of the following two editions.

None of this success would have been possible without a great advisor, who is always there to help and assist the students on any problems they have on the production. Jessica Langlois has been the advisor for Inside Fullerton for three years and is really proud of the work done by the students.

“It means a lot to me that the students won this award, because I know how hard they worked,” said Langlois. “The magazine always gets better with the passing of time.”

There are many more prizes won by Inside Fullerton, awarded by national and local institutions, and with every new production, there is that hope of many more to come.
