The Fullerton College Lady Hornets came prepared to play against the Orange Coast College Pirates Wednesday afternoon and their determination led to a 20-5 victory.

Fullerton came in with confidence after last weekend’s success against Riverside and Foothill at the Cuesta Tournament, not to mention every other team they have faced this season with an impressive undefeated record of 20-0.

The game started out strong with the Lady Hornets’ defense allowing very few shots from the Pirates and numerous blocks by their goalkeeper during the entire quarter. Fullerton’s first goal was scored within minutes and their success continued through all four quarters.

“Team wise, the game was great. I’m pretty happy with how everything is going but I want to keep practicing to make every game that much better and improving personally,” said Jordan Klein a sophomore.

Fullerton’s drive to stay undefeated proved to be Orange Coast’s weakness as the Lady Hornets continued to rack up points throughout the second quarter.

The Pirates stepped up their game during the second quarter but it was not enough to combat the Hornets. Even with a tricky offense from the Pirates, the Lady Hornets stayed strong and continued scoring through the entire third period.

With their strong defense in the second quarter, Orange Coast happened to get through a few times to score but that did not stop Fullerton’s fight. The Lady Hornets’ goalkeeper, Teresa Alcala, was more than ready for anything the Pirates could throw at her.

“We came in prepared. It was well executed. The only way we are going to keep going strong is to keep working hard and not get big heads,” said Grace Schade a freshman.

The third and fourth quarters were just as strong as the first half. Anyone could see that the Lady Hornets emphasis working as a team and communicating which proves to be the keys to success as they continued to score endlessly.

“It was overall a good game but for me personally, I need to work on my defense and talking more,” said Nicole Williams a freshman. “Communication is everything in this game.”

All of the practicing definitely showed in the second half even when Fullerton was not phased by Orange Coast stepping up their game. Their defense kicked in once again to slow down the Pirates’ scoring attempts and proved why the Lady Hornets are one of the best teams in the nation with the final score.

Head coach, Gabriel Martinez, is still more than impressed with his team.

“Their practicing and conditioning is definitely showing. These girls know exactly what they’re doing,” he said. “We need to keep improving and start learning to avoid turnovers. Today, the whole defense really stood out.”

The lady Hornets are headed to Ventura this weekend for the Ventura College Tournament and hope to keep their record going strong. They will play four games over the weekend.
