Netflix continues to up its game each month with new releases. This month subscribers were not disappointed with some big premieres. If you’re looking for time to kill, add these shows to your queue.
TV Releases:
Gilmore Girls – If you’ve never heard of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, well you better press play now and not come up for air until you’ve finished all seven seasons of this WB classic. Yes, this show was on the air before the WB became the CW. Despite the age of the show (2000 – 2007), the classic mother/daughter dramedy does not seem to age. The Amy Sherman-Palladino classic stars Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore, a single mother in her 30s, living with her teenage daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel), in the small town of Stars Hollow, Conn., navigating through the ins and outs of relationships and life.
The Walking Dead – Walkers and guns prove to be a winning combination for AMC’s blockbuster action drama. Season four was released on Netflix just in time for all those hoping to catch up for the season five premiere. Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes is facing the collapse of the prison as walkers surround the gates and a deadly flu-like infection ravages the survivors. Watch all 16 newly released episodes and catch up with “The Walking Dead.”
Movie Releases:
Django Unchained – Quentin Tarantino is a cult movie legend. This violent spaghetti western film is nothing short of fantastic. Jamie Fox leads the cast as Django (the D is silent), a free man who’s trying to save his wife Broomhilda Von Shaft, played by Kerry Washington (Scandal) from the crooked yet charming Candyland Plantation owner Calvin J. Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). With the help of Dr. King Schultz, played by Cristoph Waltz, Django hatches a plan to rescue his wife and blow up a few people in the process. Django won two academy awards including best Original Screenplay.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – The sequel to the young adult dystopian book to movie adaptation hits the streaming world this month in anticipation for the third film this November, “Mockingjay pt.1.” Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson star as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, who once again face a grueling battlefield where only one is expected to live. But this time it’s different, the Capitol is collapsing around them and war is coming. Catch fire with Katniss on Netflix starting Oct. 22.

Chelsea Hander: Uganda Be Kidding Me – The former E! Network late night talk show host brings the laughs in her new stand-up special named after her recent self penned book. Handler, who famously told British Journalist Piers Morgan where to stick it before his show was cancelled earlier this year, brings stories of living with her gay roommate and her never ending love for dogs while performing an hour set for a live audience in Chicago.
Tim Minchin and the Heritage Orchestra Live – This brilliant musician and comedian brings “it” with the power of laughter and rock. Part comedy special and part concert, you’ll find your mouth gaping after listening to the sheer genius of this man’s lyrics and composition. The use of the Heritage Orchestra not only deepens his music but puts a score to his stand up. Top Recommendation.
