Women’s Basketball Fall In Close One

Originally written for publishing on February 8, 2013.

The Fullerton College women’s basketball team was unable to get anything going offensively and fell to Riverside College, 48-44, this past Friday night at Fullerton College.

Neither team played well offensively, but Riverside (14-11, 7-2 in OEC) was able to bring it together in the second half, to take the win as both teams had poor shooting performances from the field. Fullerton (6-17, 2-7 in OEC) actually outshot Riverside, but not by enough to make a difference. The Lady Hornets shot 29 percent, while the Lady Tigers shot 28 percent.

The Lady Tigers dominated the inside, and that proved to be the difference. In a game where neither team was shooting the ball well, Riverside pulled down 19 offensive rebounds, and Fullerton only had six.

Riverside’s Kayla Johns pulled down 13 rebounds on her own, and added seven points. Neka Hunter led all scorers in the game with 14 points for the Lady Tigers, but only managed to shoot 4-20 from the field.

The Lady Hornet offense was anchored by Amber Washington who had 12 points on 3-5 shooting and 6-8 from the free throw line. She also added nine rebounds.

At one point in the second half, Fullerton had the game tied, but RIverside was able to make more big shots down the stretch, and that proved to be the difference.

The Lady Hornets will now gear up as they host Saddleback College this Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
