A taste of Louisiana takes North Orange County by storm

The Cajun broil is a different type of mouth-watering experience that originates from Louisiana and has now made its home in Brea, Calif. With succulent seafood like shrimp, crab and crawfish broiled right into a family secret sauce, On The Hook will leave you wanting more.

On The Hook, just 8-weeks-old, is located off Imperial Highway in the Brea Union Plaza. Guests have the choice of seasonal seafood and can order the Main Cargo by the pound, pick the flavor of the day – Cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper or the crowd favorite, “All Hooked Up”, which is all three sauces in one! You then walk the plank with your choice of spiciness brought to you by the habanero pepper, which differs in strength by the day. You can add trinkets to your liking, like corn on the cob, andouille sausage or red potatoes to be cooked right into your broil to soak up that garlic filled sauce.

After butcher paper is placed on the table and bibs are tied around your neck, your customized broil is brought out hot in a bag and placed in a warm cast-iron skillet for you to dive hands first in.

The All Hooked Up, peel-and-eat shrimp, is covered with garlic and bursting with flavor. Perfect complements to this savory seafood are the garlic noodles, Cajun fries, and garlic cheese flatbread. Garlic is definitely a staple here at On The Hook and it seems guests are loving it.

If you are looking for something more classic and a bit less messy, there are some lunch favorites like beer-battered fish n’ chips as well as catfish po’boys. Being as they are Vietnamese owned, the shrimp spring rolls are a popular lunch item as well.

If the habanero has gotten a little too spicy then quench your fiery thirst with one of their delicious specialty drinks, like mint or blueberry lemonades or the popular Thai Tea. You can even drink straight from a fresh, young coconut they crack open for you.

If you have a sweetness craving at the end of your meal be sure to try their version of the original Louisiana dessert, beignets. You can have your beignets “All Hooked Up” with honey, cinnamon, and powdered sugar alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

On The Hook definitely saves the show for the end with a way to freshen up your hands that reminds you of your sixth grade science project. A clear vase with dry ice is brought out and you wash your hands with the “bubbles” that overflow onto your table. Talk about a memorable ending to a delicious seafood experience!

On The Hook is located at 2445 E Imperial Hwy, Ste M, Brea.
