Franz Ferdinand’s newest effort hits right on target

Franz Ferdinand’s newest effort, “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action” sees the Glasgow native artsy-indie-rock band staying true to their “Take Me Out” roots via well worked mod-inspired grooves and funky art beats.

It sounds as if the modern day B-52’S were to travel back in time to New York City in 1977 in an older well-loved Volkswagen van and meet up with The Doors along the way in the back of a dark seedy rock club and share mellow thoughts over french vanilla-flavored hookah while watching The Talking Heads play Blondie covers.

The record has a really smooth vibe while still retaining the fun spirit of rock-and-roll and a kick of soda funk. This new project complements Franz Ferdinands’ previous additions to their catalog perfectly while still showcasing its own individual sound, personality, and energy.

Lead singer, Alex Kapranos’ vocals give the otherwise funky instrumentals a very haunting, seductive vibe that draws you in and keeps your mind lingering on the tracks for hours after you listen. The lyrics boast the same flirty, yet intriguing energy that we’ve seen from the quartet in recordings past with lines sprinkled through this go around like, “We could love, we could love you/ If you need somebody to love you/ While you’re looking for somebody to love” from the track, Love Illumination.

The live tracks at the end of the deluxe addition are a real bonus treat as well. It includes live versions of new songs from this album as well as throwback favorites such as “No You Girls” and “Do You Want To.” You can check out, “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action” on Spotify, iTunes, and at your local record store. This album would most appeal to fans of The Smiths, The Strokes, and Jet.
